Most travellers visit Barbados visa-free for tourism, with permitted stay set on arrival by nationality: up to 6 months for nationals of countries such as the US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Brazil; 90 days for most EU states, Japan, India and many others; 30 days for China, Mexico and Costa Rica; and 28 days for a smaller list (e.g. Belarus, Ukraine, Venezuela). Belize, Dominica and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines enjoy CARICOM freedom of movement. The stay does not authorise work or study and does not by itself lead to residence. All arrivals must complete the online Immigration and Customs form (ED Form) at travelform.gov.bb, available up to 72 hours before arrival.

Nationals of countries that are not visa-exempt (including Afghanistan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Iran, Iraq, Kosovo, Laos, Libya, Myanmar, North Korea, Papua New Guinea, Somalia, Syria, Taiwan and Yemen) must obtain an entry visa before travelling; visas are not issued on arrival. Short business trips for meetings, conferences, negotiations and similar activity are made under the same visa-free entry framework as tourism for visa-exempt nationals (visa-required nationals use the entry visa). The duration of stay is set on arrival by nationality (commonly up to 6 months for major partner countries). Business visitors may not take up local employment or be paid by a Barbadian source; anyone working for a Barbadian employer needs a work permit. All non-Barbadian students must obtain a student visa before arriving to study in Barbados (for example at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill). The school completes Form H-1 (Certificate of Eligibility), certified by the Ministry of Education, and the student (or parent/guardian for minors) completes Form H-2. A provisional visa not exceeding four months is granted after security clearance, followed by a final visa covering the remainder of the study programme (up to three years for minors). The Welcome Stamp is a 12-month visa for remote workers, allowing applicants and their families to live in Barbados while working for an employer or clients outside the country. Applicants must demonstrate an expected annual income of at least USD 50,000 over the 12 months and hold valid health insurance covering the full period. The fee is USD 2,000 for an individual and USD 3,000 for a family bundle, payable within 28 days of approval; decisions are typically issued within about 7 business days. Holders are treated as non-residents for Barbados tax purposes (no local tax on foreign income), and the visa is renewable by reapplication, with a 25% discount on renewal. It does not authorise working for a Barbadian employer and does not lead directly to permanent residence.

Permanent resident status grants the right to live and work in Barbados indefinitely, typically available after a person has held immigrant status or otherwise resided lawfully in Barbados for at least five years.
