Tourist Visa
Jordan Tourist eVisa / Single-Entry Visa
Jordan's electronic visit visa is applied for online through the Ministry of Interior e-services portal (eservices.moi.gov.jo) before travel and issued as a printable PDF presented at a port of entry; the same visa is also issued on arrival at most airports and at some land crossings. The standard single-entry visa costs JOD 40 and permits a stay of up to one month, with the visa itself valid for entry within a limited window (commonly 3 months). A double-entry visa (up to 3 months, JOD 60) and a multiple-entry visa (up to 6 months, JOD 120) are obtained from a Jordanian embassy or consulate. Over 130 nationalities are eligible for the eVisa. The visa is for tourism and short visits and does not permit work or grant residence; travellers who buy a Jordan Pass before arrival and stay at least 3 nights have the entry visa fee waived. Stays beyond the granted period require registration with the Borders and Residence Department. Fees and eligibility are set by the competent authorities and may change without notice.
PassportValid for at least 6 months beyond the planned date of entry.

Tourist Visa
Jordan Pass (Tourist Pass with Visa-Fee Waiver)
The Jordan Pass is the official tourism pass of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities (jordanpass.jo). Bought online before arrival, it waives the tourist entry-visa fee for visitors who stay at least 3 nights (2 nights) in Jordan, and bundles entry to Petra and 40+ attractions (Jerash, the Amman Citadel, Aqaba sites and others). Three tiers are sold: Jordan Wanderer (JOD 70, one day at Petra), Jordan Explorer (JOD 75, two consecutive days) and Jordan Expert (JOD 80, three consecutive days). The pass must be activated by visiting Jordan within 12 months of purchase and is single-use per traveller. It functions as a visit-visa fee waiver rather than a separate visa class, so the eligible-nationality and entry rules of the tourist visa still apply, and travellers staying fewer than 3 nights remain liable for the visa fee. It confers no work or residence rights.
PassportValid for at least 6 months beyond entry; passport number is registered with the pass.
Jordan Pass purchasePass bought online from jordanpass.jo before arrival in Jordan.
Minimum-stay itineraryEvidence of a stay of at least 3 nights to qualify for the visa-fee waiver.
Printed or digital passQR-coded pass shown on entry and at each attraction.
Transit Visa
Jordan Transit Visa
The transit visa is for travellers passing through Jordan en route to a third country, applied for through the Ministry of Interior transit-visa e-service. It permits a short stop (generally up to 24-48 hours) and requires a confirmed onward ticket. Passengers connecting through a Jordanian airport within 48 hours on a confirmed onward flight to a third country generally do not need a transit visa. Where a visa is required, the standard visit-visa fee scale applies. The transit visa confers no work or residence rights and does not lead to a residence permit. Conditions and exemptions are determined by the competent authorities at the port of entry and may change without notice.
Transit visa applicationCompleted transit-visa request via the Ministry of Interior e-services portal.
Confirmed onward ticketTicket to a third country, typically within 48 hours of arrival.
Visa for onward destinationOptionalEntry visa for the final destination country where required.
Visa fee paymentPayment of the applicable transit/visit visa fee.
Business Visitor Visa
Jordan Business Visit Visa
Jordan does not issue a separate business-visa class; short business trips (meetings, conferences, negotiations, site visits) are made on the standard visit visa, applied for online via the Ministry of Interior e-services portal or obtained on arrival. The single-entry visit visa (JOD 40, up to 30 days) suits one-off trips; frequent travellers use the embassy-issued double-entry (JOD 60, up to 3 months) or multiple-entry (JOD 120, up to 6 months) visa. A supporting invitation letter from the Jordanian host company is commonly requested. The visit visa does not authorise local employment or paid work for a Jordanian entity - that requires a work permit and work residence permit - and it does not lead to residence. Fees and conditions are set by the competent authorities and may change without notice.
Visa fee paymentPayment of the applicable visit-visa fee.
Medical Treatment Visa
Jordan Medical Treatment Visit Visa
Jordan is a regional medical-tourism hub, and patients travelling for treatment enter on the standard visit visa (there is no separate medical-visa class), applied for online via the Ministry of Interior e-services portal or issued on arrival. The single-entry visit visa (JOD 40, up to 30 days) covers a typical treatment trip; longer or repeated treatment uses the embassy-issued double-entry (JOD 60) or multiple-entry (JOD 120) visit visa. A letter or appointment confirmation from the Jordanian hospital/clinic is commonly requested, and patients needing to stay beyond the visa period register with the Borders and Residence Department or move to an annual residence permit. The visit visa does not confer work rights or residence. Fees and conditions are set by the competent authorities and may change without notice.
Visa fee paymentPayment of the applicable visit-visa fee.
Pilgrimage Visa
Jordan Religious / Pilgrimage Visit Visa (Baptism Site & Holy Sites)
Visitors to Jordan's religious sites - including Bethany Beyond the Jordan (Al-Maghtas, the Baptism Site), Mount Nebo, Madaba and other pilgrimage destinations - travel on the standard visit visa, as Jordan does not issue a separate pilgrimage-visa class. The visa is obtained online through the Ministry of Interior e-services portal or on arrival; the single-entry visit visa (JOD 40, up to 30 days) suits most pilgrimage trips, while the Jordan Pass waives the entry-visa fee for stays of 3+ nights and bundles site entry. Organised religious groups frequently travel under tour-operator arrangements. The visit visa is for tourism/religious visits only and confers no work or residence rights. Fees and conditions are set by the competent authorities and may change without notice.

Student Visa
Jordan Student Residence Permit
International students admitted to a Jordanian university or recognised academic institution enter on a visit/study visa and then obtain an annual study residence permit from the Ministry of Interior, coordinated through the institution's student-affairs / expatriates office. The student submits proof of enrolment, passport, entry stamp and required documents to the university, which forwards them to the Ministry of Interior; after approval and a medical examination, the student presents documents at the local police station (Borders and Residence Department) for fingerprinting and issuance. The permit is valid for one year and renewed annually for the duration of study; students whose institutions handle the process are generally exempt from the bank-deposit requirement applied to other residents. The permit authorises study, not general employment. Time spent studying can later support a switch to a work permit and counts toward long legal residence, though naturalisation outside the investor framework is discretionary.
Study: Authorises enrolment and study at the sponsoring institution.
Residency: Annual renewals during studies; may switch to a work permit afterwards.

Skilled Work Visa
Jordan Work Permit and Work Residence Permit
Foreign nationals working in Jordan need a work permit issued by the Ministry of Labour, sponsored by the employer, plus a work residence permit (Iqama) from the Ministry of Interior. The employer must show that the role cannot be filled by a qualified Jordanian. Annual work-permit fees are tiered by nationality and sector: roughly JOD 300 for a non-Arab worker in most sectors, JOD 180 for an Arab worker, and reduced rates in agriculture (about JOD 120 / JOD 60); renewals cost around JOD 150-175. Both the permit and the work residence permit are valid for one year and are renewed annually. Closed (restricted) professions reserved for Jordanians cannot be filled by foreigners. Work permits are job- and employer-specific; the residence permit follows the permit. Long-term legal residence can, after the qualifying period, support a non-investor naturalisation application, which is discretionary. Family members are admitted under separate follower/family residence permits.
Work: Authorised only for the sponsoring employer and the permitted occupation.
Residency: Annual renewals; long legal residence may support discretionary naturalisation, no fixed PR timeline.
Family: Dependants admitted on separate follower/family residence permits.

Renewable 5-year investor residency for purchasers of JOD 200,000+ property or active investors in Jordanian businesses (deposit requirement cut to JOD 10,000 in Feb 2025); a separate citizenship-by-investment track exists from JOD ~700,000.
Jordan Five-Year Investor Residence by Real Estate
Jordan grants a renewable five-year residence permit to foreigners who buy real estate valued at no less than JOD 200,000 (about USD 282,000), as assessed by the Department of Lands and Survey, from a licensed developer, for residential purposes with an independent title deed. Introduced under criteria set by the Council of Ministers (in force July 2025) and administered by the Ministry of Investment with the Ministry of Interior's investor committee, the property must be retained for the full period without sale or mortgage. The permit is renewable every five years while ownership is maintained, and holders may enter and exit freely, though the permit lapses after about six months of continuous absence. Family inclusion covers the spouse, children (commonly up to age 24) and parents, plus a limited number of domestic helpers. This residency route explicitly does not lead to Jordanian citizenship regardless of how long it is held. Thresholds are reviewed roughly every six months; confirm current figures with the Ministry of Investment.
Study: Residents and included children may enrol in study.
Residency: Renewable 5-year permit; does NOT lead to citizenship.

Citizenship by Investment
Jordan Citizenship by Investment - Company Shares Route
Jordan grants citizenship to foreign investors under a framework approved by the Cabinet on 2 July 2025 and administered by the Ministry of Investment with the Ministry of Interior. The share-purchase route requires buying new shares in Jordanian companies for at least JOD 1,000,000 (about USD 1.4 million), spread across a minimum of several companies with no more than 20% of the value in any single company, held without disposal for at least 3 years. The programme is capped at 500 investors per year. Investors typically receive residency first and a temporary passport, with full citizenship granted once conditions are maintained for the required holding period. Family inclusion covers the spouse and dependent children (with an expanded age limit for male children on larger investments) and dependent parents. All applicants undergo security clearance and a source-of-funds/financial-solvency check; certain nationalities are excluded. Figures are reported by official decree summaries; exact current thresholds should be confirmed with the Ministry of Investment as the framework is reviewed periodically.
Work: Investor and, once naturalised, family enjoy full rights as nationals.
Study: Full access to study once citizenship/residency is granted.
Residency: Leads to citizenship after the required holding period; residency granted first.
Family: Spouse, dependent children (expanded age limit on large investments) and dependent parents.

Business Investor Visa
Jordan Citizenship by Investment - Project / SME Route
Under the same 2 July 2025 citizenship-by-investment framework, foreign investors can naturalise by establishing or funding productive projects that create jobs for Jordanians. Reported thresholds include establishing a new project with paid-in capital of about JOD 700,000 creating around 20 jobs in Amman, or about JOD 500,000 creating around 10 jobs outside Amman; investing roughly JOD 1,000,000 (USD 1.4 million) into existing projects creating at least 20 jobs; or an employment-based route hiring 150 Jordanians in Amman (100 outside). Projects must remain operational for at least 3 years. The programme is capped at 500 investors per year and is administered by the Ministry of Investment with the Ministry of Interior. Investors receive residency and a temporary passport before full citizenship, which follows once conditions are maintained. Family inclusion covers spouse, dependent children and parents, subject to security clearance, source-of-funds verification and nationality restrictions. Thresholds vary across official decree summaries and are reviewed periodically; confirm current figures with the Ministry of Investment.

Retirement Visa
Jordan Long-Stay Residence for Retirees / Non-Working Residents
Jordan does not run a dedicated 'retirement visa', but retirees and other financially independent foreigners reside under the Ministry of Interior's 'Workless Residency with Bank Deposit' (annual residence) or the five-year residence routes. The standard requirement is a qualifying bank certificate in a Jordanian bank - reported at about JOD 10,000 for residents of more than two years (previously JOD 20,000), with the deposit waived for foreigners who own qualifying Jordanian property and have resided over two years. The permit is issued for one year and renewed annually (a five-year version is available via the deposit/property route). It confers legal residence without the right to take local employment. Holders may enter and exit Jordan, subject to continuous-absence limits. This route does not by itself lead to citizenship. Deposit amounts have been eased recently; confirm current figures with the Borders and Residence Department.
Study: Resident may enrol in study programmes.

Family Reunification Visa
Jordan Family / Follower Residence Permit
The Ministry of Interior's Family/Follower Residency lets foreigners reside in Jordan on the basis of a family or marriage connection with a Jordanian citizen, or as dependants of a foreign resident sponsor. Foreigners married to Jordanians, or dependent on Jordanian relatives, receive a family residence permit; spouses of Jordanian nationals follow a streamlined route and are not subject to the bank-deposit requirement applied to other residents. The application is filed online; once approved, the printed approval is taken to the nearest Borders and Residence Department police station for fingerprinting. The Jordanian spouse (or a lawyer with power of attorney) must attend, and a recent marriage certificate is required. The permit is issued for one year and renewed annually. Foreign wives of Jordanian men may, after the qualifying married-residence period, apply separately for naturalisation; this is governed by the nationality law and is not automatic. The permit allows residence but not, by itself, general employment.
Study: Family members may enrol in study.
Residency: Annual renewals; foreign wives of Jordanian men may later apply for naturalisation under the nationality law.
Family: Built around the family link to a Jordanian or resident sponsor; covers spouse and dependent children.

Jordan Skilled / Specialised Worker Permit
Jordan operates dedicated work-permit categories for skilled and specialised foreign professionals (for example senior technical, managerial and expert roles) within the Ministry of Labour permit system. These categories can carry higher government fees than ordinary permits and are used where the employer demonstrates the need for specialised expertise not available locally. Like the standard work permit, the skilled-worker permit is employer-sponsored, job-specific, valid for one year and renewable, and is paired with a work residence permit from the Ministry of Interior. Exact fees vary by the regulation in force and the occupation; applicants should confirm the current category and fee with the Ministry of Labour. The route confers in-country work rights for the sponsoring employer only and does not by itself grant permanent residence; naturalisation outside the investor framework remains discretionary.
Work: Authorised for the sponsoring employer in the specialised role.
Residency: Annual renewals; no fixed statutory PR timeline.
Family: Dependants on follower/family residence permits.

Long-Term Residence Permit
Jordan Five-Year Residence by Bank Deposit
The Ministry of Interior offers a five-year residence permit (Annual Residence for Five Years) to foreigners who place a qualifying bank certificate/deposit in a Jordanian bank or own residential property. Reported requirements are a bank certificate of about JOD 20,000 where the applicant does not own a residential apartment, or about JOD 10,000 together with the title deed of a residential apartment. Recent easing reduced the deposit (from JOD 20,000 to JOD 10,000) for applicants resident more than two years and waived the deposit entirely for property owners who keep their property and have resided in Jordan for over two years. The permit is renewable and gives long-term legal residence without local work rights. This is the practical long-stay/financially-independent residence route (used by retirees and other non-working residents). It does not by itself lead to citizenship; naturalisation outside the investor framework is discretionary. Confirm current deposit amounts with the Borders and Residence Department, as they have changed recently.
Study: Resident and included family may enrol in study.
