The Jordan Pass is the official tourism pass of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities (jordanpass.jo). Bought online before arrival, it waives the tourist entry-visa fee for visitors who stay at least 3 nights (2 nights) in Jordan, and bundles entry to Petra and 40+ attractions (Jerash, the Amman Citadel, Aqaba sites and others). Three tiers are sold: Jordan Wanderer (JOD 70, one day at Petra), Jordan Explorer (JOD 75, two consecutive days) and Jordan Expert (JOD 80, three consecutive days). The pass must be activated by visiting Jordan within 12 months of purchase and is single-use per traveller. It functions as a visit-visa fee waiver rather than a separate visa class, so the eligible-nationality and entry rules of the tourist visa still apply, and travellers staying fewer than 3 nights remain liable for the visa fee. The transit visa is for travellers passing through Jordan en route to a third country, applied for through the Ministry of Interior transit-visa e-service. It permits a short stop (generally up to 24-48 hours) and requires a confirmed onward ticket. Passengers connecting through a Jordanian airport within 48 hours on a confirmed onward flight to a third country generally do not need a transit visa. Where a visa is required, the standard visit-visa fee scale applies. The transit visa confers no work or residence rights and does not lead to a residence permit. International students admitted to a Jordanian university or recognised academic institution enter on a visit/study visa and then obtain an annual study residence permit from the Ministry of Interior, coordinated through the institution's student-affairs / expatriates office. The student submits proof of enrolment, passport, entry stamp and required documents to the university, which forwards them to the Ministry of Interior; after approval and a medical examination, the student presents documents at the local police station (Borders and Residence Department) for fingerprinting and issuance.
