Mongolia's employment route (historically the HG classification, organised in current practice into C-category employment sub-classes covering economic sectors such as construction, mining, technology, finance, agriculture, healthcare and transport) is for foreign nationals taking up work with a Mongolian employer. The employer must first obtain a pre-work permit from the General Authority for Labour and Social Welfare before the worker applies for the visa permission and visa; the work permit is granted for up to one year and is extendable up to one year at a time. Employers pay a monthly workplace fee of roughly twice the minimum wage per foreign employee unless exempted by Cabinet resolution.
