Close family members (spouse, child, parent — currently also sibling, grandparent, grandchild) of an Armenian citizen or of a foreigner holding Armenian residence may obtain a 1-year temporary residence permit, renewable. Relatives of Armenian citizens are currently exempt from the state fee (otherwise AMD 105,000); dependents of a residence-permit holder pay the standard fee per applicant. Family residence years count toward permanent residence (3 years) and citizenship.

Armenia Residence for Spouses of Citizens
The foreign spouse of an Armenian citizen obtains a temporary (1-year) or, after qualifying, permanent residence permit; spouses of citizens are currently exempt from the state fee and from work-permit requirements. After two years of marriage (with a period of residence in Armenia, or having a common child) the spouse may apply for Armenian citizenship through simplified naturalization. Foreigners of Armenian origin (or with an Armenian parent/grandparent) may acquire Armenian citizenship through simplified naturalization with no residence period, no language test, no constitution exam and no investment — the flagship diaspora repatriation route. Ethnicity is typically proven by a baptismal certificate from a recognized Armenian church or an official document recording Armenian ethnicity, apostilled and translated.
