The family visit visa lets a foreigner visit a relative who is a Kuwaiti citizen or a legal resident of Kuwait. It is applied for online (or by the sponsor) and is available as a single-entry visa valid 3 months and renewable, or as a multiple-entry visa valid up to 1 year. Under the residency reform effective 23 December 2025, all visit visas (tourism, family, medical and business) carry a fee of 10 Kuwaiti dinars per entry and are valid 3 months, renewable once for a combined maximum of one year. A resident sponsor in Kuwait must provide their Civil ID and meet ministry conditions. The visa does not authorise work or study and does not lead to residence.

Since 11 August 2025 any expatriate holding a valid residence permit in another GCC country (Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Oman or Bahrain) may obtain a Kuwait tourist visa on arrival, regardless of profession, replacing the older 2008 rule that limited it to specific occupations. The residence permit must be valid for at least 6 months and the passport for at least 6 months. The visa is for tourism and short visits; the e-visa fee of around 3 Kuwaiti dinars applies. Nationals of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Syria and Yemen are generally excluded even with GCC residency and must apply through a Kuwaiti mission. GCC citizens themselves enter freely with a passport or GCC national ID.

The Kuwait transit visa is for travellers passing through Kuwait en route to a third country who wish to leave the airport, typically for layovers exceeding 24 hours. It permits a stay of up to 7 days and can be obtained from a Kuwaiti consulate abroad or, for eligible nationals, at a port of entry. Applicants must hold a confirmed onward ticket to the final destination and a visa for that destination if required. GCC nationals do not need a transit visa, and travellers who remain in the international transit area do not require one. The visa does not authorise work or residence.

Business applicants must comply with Law No. 116 of 2013 on direct investment promotion and are assessed by the Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority (KDIPA) on factors such as technology transfer, support for non-oil diversification, export potential and job creation for Kuwaitis; a Negative List excludes sectors such as oil and gas and media.
